Ryder Fleischmann, from Hampstead Maryland, is currently enrolled in the Institute of Applied Agriculture at the University of Maryland, with his focus on Agricultural Business Management. To further his knowledge within his career pathway, Fleischmann diligently worked an internship this summer, 2021, at Misty Valley Farms in Cockeysville, Maryland. During his internship, Fleischmann enjoyed supervising the employees as well as the actual farm. Along with leadership opportunities, he also enjoyed learning and working with new equipment. Normal daily tasks included traveling around Maryland to pick up produce, unloading and loading trucks, and attending produce auctions.

Fleischmann felt at home and comfortable while working, as Misty Valley Farms keeps a chill environment and requires no uniform.  Before starting his internship in spring, he had set a goal to learn about better time management skills. After completing this internship, he now can manage time better than ever! The skills Fleischmann gained from his internship will carry him throughout his career. Not only was he enjoying what he loves but was also growing his savings account. “I love what I do and it’s what I want do to for the rest of my life,” Fleischmann states while eagerly talking about his internship.  Misty Valley farms created an energetic positive atmosphere for all their employees and there were even moments on the job where he had little too much fun... One day while filling a water tank, Fleischmann did not turn off the water which caused the hose to blast out of the tank spraying the employees standing around. Fleischmann plans to continue working with Misty Valley Farms for a career, as it is his family’s business. He plans to eventually take over the farm and expand it in every possible direction. With Fleischmann’s leadership skills and creativity, he will have no problem accomplishing his goals! One of Fleischmann's colleagues, Grayson Welsh stated, “I had a lot of fun working for him and his family and they ran a very smooth operation selling produce."
