From the time he could walk, Aaron Good knew he wanted to work alongside his father at Spring Branch farms. Spring Branch arms is a family owned and operated grain and livestock farm in Denton, Maryland. While studying Agricultural Business Management at the University of Maryland’s Institute of Applied Agriculture (IAA), Good interned at the farm. As a third-generation farmer, Good was well equipped for this position.

Throughout the duration of his internship, Goods tasks included, but were not limited to, scouting crops, feeding livestock, working on various pieces of equipment, running irrigation, and operating machinery. Good learned how to properly scout crops and identify diseases, weeds, and insects that could be detrimental to the health of his crop. This also included taking soil samples, counting populations, and learning how to properly run and maintain irrigation.

As a result of his courses at the IAA, Good was able to oversee and understand the financial aspects of the farm in addition to assisting in daily farm maintenance. On top of all of this, Good also received his class A license permit and is working toward getting his class A license.

Despite working up to 18-hour days on the farm, Good greatly enjoyed his internship and stated that this experience gave him clarity and “affirmed my beliefs about wanting to work at Spring Branch farms after graduation.”

Overall, Good’s exposure with Spring Branch farms opened his eyes to all the opportunities in agriculture and helped him to further visualize his future career at the farm. Dylan Osborne, a lifelong friend and coworker, described Good as a “hardworking, honest guy” and says Good puts “100% of himself into every task at hand.”

It is this work ethic and determination, combined with a lifetime of experience, that makes Good such a desirable employee. Osborne and the rest of the Spring Branch farms family believe Good has a bright future in the agriculture industry.
