A “Hole” Lot of Work for Brent Waite

December 5, 2013

When asked, Brent Waite smiles and says he spent his summer punching holes in the ground 14 hours a day.  The IAA Golf Course Management major jokes about the many hours he spent aerating greens at Bay Hills Golf Course in Arnold, Maryland.  Even with all the “hole punching” Waite had a great internship experience.

“I really felt that Bay Hills would offer experience I couldn’t obtain elsewhere,” said Waite.  And it did.  Waite was given the opportunity to be the Assistant Superintendent.

He says he had a chance to hone his management skills. “I learned the importance of pest management, and general management, including budgeting.”

Waite plans to continue his current job with Bay Hills and reevaluate when he graduates from the IAA in 2014. He says, “I’m really looking forward to taking the skills I gained from Bay Hills and applying them throughout my career.”

Waite shows true dedication and passion for golf course management.  If you ever drive by Bay Hills Golf Course at night and see a spotlight on a golf course, it just may be Waite, still aerating the greens!
