Geoffrey Brittingham Expects the Unexpected

December 9, 2013

Geoffrey Brittingham, Assistant Superintendent at the Woodlands Country Club in Windsor Mill, Maryland for two years, returned to school to meet his employer’s demands.  A Golf Course Management major at the Institute of Applied Agriculture at the University of Maryland, Brittingham intends to graduate in May 2014.

Working at the Woodlands Golf Club and overseeing 25 employees on one of the 18-hole courses Brittingham says “there’s more to golf management than being good at growing grass.  You also have to be good at managing people.”

Offering advice to new students considering a career in turf management, Brittingham smiles and adds, “Mother Nature is harsh. Expect the unexpected.”

Brittingham believes he has gained valuable skills while attending classes at the IAA that will allow him to be successful in managing the inner workings of a golf facility. After graduating, he plans to continue working at the Woodlands, as an Assistant Superintendent where he will continue to apply those skills.
