Scholarships for IAA students

The scholarships on this page are only available for students of the Institute of Applied Agriculture (IAA). Funds are awarded directly through the IAA. Please download, read, and fill out the form carefully, then submit your completed application to Room 2123 of Jull Hall.

Please note: there is one application form which covers multiple IAA scholarships. The annual due dates are January 5 for Spring scholarship applications, and May 31 for Fall applications. Download the IAA's scholarship application using the link below.

IAA scholarship opportunities include:

Edward M. Bowman Family Scholarship

This scholarship is available to IAA students who possess strong leadership skills and demonstrate enthusiasm for experiential learning. Recipients should be innovative, self-starters who may not have the same opportunities as others without some financial assistance. Recipients must be in good academic standing and should be registered full time.


Cecil M. Massie Scholarship

This award originated from an endowment fund established by Dr. and Mrs. Cecil M. Massie. Dr. Massie was a faculty member of the Institute for 21 years. The award is up to $500 per semester, renewable for one semester contingent upon satisfactory academic progress. A minimum of 6 credits per semester is required. Golf Course Superintendent's Association of America (GCSAA)

This scholarship is awarded by the GCSAA and recipients are selected based on recommendation of a faculty advisor and an employer. Applicants must:

  1. Show evidence of scholarship, aptitude, and achievement
  2. Be enrolled as a second year student
  3. Be interested in a career of golf course management and
  4. Demonstrate financial need

John and Ronnie Strickland Turfgrass Fund 

This is an endowed fund to support scholarships and research in the turfgrass program at the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR) at the University of Maryland, College Park. The scholarship recipient must be enrolled in the Institute of Applied Agriculture's turfgrass program. 


Shields Memorial Scholarship

Four to five awards are made annually to students enrolled in the IAA's Golf Course Management Program. This endowed scholarship fund continues to grow. Awards can range between $500 and $2,500. Recipients must show future promise to the golf course industry, and have a sound academic record.


Turf Equipment & Supply Company  (TESCO) Scholarship

The TESCO scholarship is open to students enrolled in the Institute of Applied Agriculture who intend to enter the green industry, including but not exclusive to: golf course management, horticulture, landscape management, sports turf, and turfgrass. Recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA.
