IAA Students Receive Scholarship Funding

September 26, 2014

Congratulations to IAA students who won scholarships for Fall 2014.  Some of  IAA’s brightest students were awarded a cumulative $10,300 in scholarship funding to put toward their academic careers.

The Shields Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Jeff Bynaker, John Critzos and Shaun Clark.  Bynaker, Critzos and Clark are all second-year students majoring in Golf Course Management.  The TESCO Scholarships were awarded to Chase Oaster and Jarod Knopp, both first-year students.  Oaster is planning a career in landscape management while Knopp is pursuing sports turf management.  The Cecil Massie Scholarship was awarded to Colby Dean, a second-semester Agricultural Business Management student.  In addition, Dean also won the Tom Hartstock Scholarship.

This year, the Edward M. Bowman Family Endowed Scholarship was able to award two scholarships, both to students majoring in Sustainable Agriculture:  June Wyman and Joyce Drake.  The recently established Strickland Scholarship was awarded to James Halley, a second-year Golf Course Management student.

June Wyman, a student in sustainable agriculture explained how helpful the scholarship has been stating; "Without the Bowman Family Scholarship I would not be able to pay for books, fees and transportation to attend the Institute. The extra help has allowed me to pursue my dream of running a small farm and selling to farmer's markets."

Her peer, Colby Dean was also appreciative of his scholarship earnings. “I am truly thankful for the Tom Hartstock and Cecil Massie Scholarships. The financial assistance has gotten me one step closer to finding my career in the agriculture industry."
