Another Successful Green Dorm Plant Giveaway

September 22, 2015

On Friday, September 4th, 2015, the Institute of Applied Agriculture (IAA) kicked off the holiday weekend with a tradition of its own - the Green Dorm Plant Giveaway.

Every semester, thanks in part to generous grants from the Pepsi Enhancement Fund and CHS, Incorporated, IAA lecturer Ken Ingram hosts the giveaway as a sustainable initiative to purify the air and beautify dorms across campus. The event takes place on the lawn of Jull Hall, a perfect place to introduce students who may not be familiar with the IAA.

Varieties of the gifted plants included Spider Plants, Mother in Law's Tongue, Inch Plants and Peperomia, all of which were grown by Ornamental Horticulture students in Ingram's INAG 114: Plant Propagation class the previous Spring. Over 800 plants went home with UMD students, faculty and staff.
