Alumni Spotlight: Sharon Bryant '73

April 14, 2016

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time and experiences at IAA,” said Sharon Bryant, a former Business Farming major. “The classes were small, and everyone knew each other.”

During her time at UMD, Bryant expressed that she learned more about herself as a person, which in turn increased her self-confidence. As the only female in her class, she explained how she was looking for practical knowledge to help her in her daily life.

“Most of the jobs available after graduation required work that I was physically unable to do or that I wasn’t really interested in,” she said. “But I believe education is never wasted. I returned to my old job working in Patient Services at a hospital. I worked in various positions and offices until I retired to Florida 12 years ago. I think I found my true calling here and was a very good office manager!”

Bryant recalled the IAA’s dedicated instructors and good curriculum—she particularly enjoyed her English class because she learned a lot of valuable, helpful material to use towards her career.

“The teachers and the director were very helpful and friendly. The close friendships with students and teachers were a wonderful and positive experience that could not possibly have been duplicated in another program.”

As we celebrate our 50th year, the IAA will shine a weekly spotlight on one of our distinguished alumni. Remember to save the date for our 50th Anniversary Gala on May 14th at the College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.
