WEEDS
Weeds are defined as plants out of place. Therefore, any plant considered not desirable may be viewed as a weed. In turfgrasses, successful wee control programs provide the proper conditions for turfgrass growth thus reducing weed encroachment. The primary cultural programs used for turfgrass weed control include species and cultivar selection, proper mowing heights, judicious watering, and proper fertilization techniques. Chemical weed control (herbicides) may initially be needed to reduce weed competition and to provide a competitive edge for the desired turfgrass species.
