TURF OnLine

INSECTS

While many species of insects damage turfgrass in the United States, this homepage describes in detail the life histories and management strategies of several key or important species found in the Mid-Atlantic region. Further information concerning these and other turfgrass pests can be found in publications such as Brandenburg and Villani (1995), Watschke, Dernoeden, and Shetlar (1995), and Niemczyk (1981). A very comprehensive turfgrass insect textbook is by H. Tashiro (1987) and is considered by most turfgrass entomologists as the most complete and cited text for turfgrass insects.
