BUMBA meets on the first Thursdays of the even numbered months, at 7:30 PM, at the Watkins Park Nature Center, 301 Watkins Park Drive, Upper Marlboro, Md. 20774 (301) 218-6770.BUMBA is dedicated to promoting beekeeping, and knowledge about bees and their importance to our food and environment, in Prince George's County. We invite anyone interested in bees and the environment to join our meetings, whether or not your have bees.Our meetings are always open to the public.
Directions: Watkins Park is located off. Route 214 (Central Ave.). Take Rt. 214 (east from the Beltway, west from Rt. 301) the intersection with Rt. 193. Turn South from Rt. 214. Go one-half mile to the entrance of Watkins Park (on the right). Follow the road to the rear of the Park to the Nature Center.
Beekeeping Classes : BUMBA offers a comprehensive beekeeping class each spring (see flyer). Participants learn how to work with manage, and handle bees for pleasure and profit,how to harvest honey and pollen, and basic bee behavior and biology and their importance to the world we live in. Anyone interested in beesor the environment is invited to participate. The classes are conductedindoors with a final field day outside with the bees. The classesare conducted in a friendly atmosphere. Students are encouraged toparticipate in the field day up to their comfort level. Classes includetext books for students to keep, refreshments, door prizes and a new hive as the Grand Prize to a raffle winner.
