Program Description

The business of equine facility management is multi-faceted. IAA's Equine Business Management curriculum includesboth horse and business courses. Required courses such as equine nutrient management, horse management, and equine pasture management and hay production are included in the program. Business acumen is essential to the success of all agricultural enterprises, including equine businesses. The IAA Equine Business Management program emphasizes financial and personnel management skills, marketing and business operations, and business management.

Career Opportunities

Maryland's horse industry contributes more than $1.6 billion annually to the state's economy. The number of jobs created by the equine industry in Central MD alone is over 20,000. These facts from the Maryland Department of Economic and Employment Development, along with discussions with agricultural community representatives involved in the horse industry, led IAA to recognize the need for appropriate business training for equine facilities owners and managers. In response to the need for training, IAA launched its Equine Business Management program in fall 2000. Stay tuned as this exciting training program at IAA helps to meet the business training needs of Maryland's equine industry!
